Keen to enjoy all that St Ives and West Cornwall has to offer this summer? Look no further! Our local property team are full of good ideas on the best things to do, from tasty food festivals and cultural highlights, to unmissable music events.

After two years of cancellations, we can’t wait to get in amongst it all again. With so much creativity and talent to tap into, festivals and events in the Duchy are always spectacular – just one of the many reasons we love living in Cornwall!

So, without further ado, here’s our run-down of some of the great events happening in and around St Ives this summer. When our day jobs as Cornish property experts are over, this is where we’ll be heading…

Food festivals to savour…

A short drive over on the South Coast, Porthleven Food Fest is one of the first major events to usher in spring. This pretty harbour town – fast-becoming a celebrated foodie destination – is the perfect stage for Cornish food and drink to put on a show. Check out the Royal Cornwall Food Tent for the best of local produce, and the chef’s stage for the likes of Jude Kereama, Michael Smith and Ben Tunnicliffe.

Back in St Ives, Porthminster Beach hosts what has to be the most beautifully situated food festival in the country. At the St Ives Food and Drink Festival from 13-15th May, food tents, chef demos, foraging walks, masterclasses and entertainment take place on the shores of the bay; it’s the ultimate weekend of culinary escapism. Expect top chefs, delicious street food and kicking back for a deckchair cocktail…

Art events to light up summer…

The Penzance Art Festival is a relatively new cultural highlight for the area. Celebrating one of the most vibrant artistic towns in the country, over 1,000 local artists from Penzance and Newlyn will take part in the showcase from 3rd – 19th June. With exhibitions, workshops, pop up galleries, talks and lectures, it’s described as “a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the art and beauty of this historic coastal town.”

Meanwhile, The St Ives September Festival has a long history of uniting music and the arts to see out summer with a bang. Many local artists open their studios, special exhibitions and talks take place, and there’s plenty of opportunities for the whole community to get involved. Comedy, poetry, films and theatre pack the schedule, which this year runs from 10th – 24th September.

Festival fun for all the family…

Just a 30 minute drive from St Ives, The Great Estate at Scorrier is an undisputable highlight in the West Cornwall calendar. Taking place over the Jubilee weekend this year, headliners include The Manic Street Preachers, Electric Six and The Sugarhill Gang. It’s a family-friendly affair, with fun workshops and roaming children’s entertainers, plus a great choice of globally-inspired street food to keep everyone happy.

In June, Penzance comes alive for the colourful celebration of midsummer that is Golowan, culminating in Mazey Day on the 25th of the month. In 2022 the theme is ‘back to the future’ and the imaginative parade structures made by local artists, schools and community groups are sure to be spectacular.

In July (1st – 3rd), the Mousehole Sea, Salts and Sail festival is another highlight for locals and visitors alike. Based around a gathering of over 40 traditional lugger boats, the event celebrates Mousehole’s close relationship with the sea. Stalls, music, entertainment, food and drink make a visit a delightful family day out.
