Location and transport links

Polzeath is approximately seven miles from Wadebridge and 14 miles from Bodmin – in both cases the journey to Rock is a few miles less. From Padstow a passenger ferry runs to Rock and operates continuously throughout the day at 20 minute intervals. 

The nearest mainline railway station is at Bodmin Parkway, just under 20 miles away (journey time to London approximately 4hrs 30mins) and Newquay airport is approximately 20 miles.

Like the rest of Cornwall, Rock and Polzeath have a myriad of great dining options to cover all occasions. With some of Cornwall’s top chefs based in this area, you’ll never be far from a delicious dish or two…

Casual eats:

The Waterfront at Polzeath – this casual beach-side restaurant offers alfresco dining with a roof top bar and wonderful views of Pentire Point. It’s perfect for a summers evening but don’t worry if the weather takes a turn for the worse – on chilly evenings or in the winter the main restaurant offers cosy and relaxed dining overlooking the beach.

The Cracking Crab – another Polzeath restaurant with a wonderful view, The Cracking Crab specialises in seafood but is also known for its fabulous West Country Steaks. From this vantage point enjoy panoramic views of the beach, or after dinner why not take a walk along the coast path and watch the sunset.  

The Mariners – Paul Ainsworth added this popular local pub in Rock to his dining portfolio in May 2019. The food is the best British pub fare imaginable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. This a great spot to while away a few hours with a few locally brewed Sharp’s beer, come rain or shine!

The Blue Tomato Cafe – This buzzing cafe in Rock offers fresh food packed with flavour. The friendly and energetic team serve up dish after dish brimming with local ingredients, which you can enjoy overlooking the Camel Estuary and Padstow Bay.

Splashing out:

St Enodoc Hotel – The St Enodoc has long been regarded as one of Cornwall’s top food destinations. A tasting menu, accompanied by a wine flight, is the best way to do the excellent restaurant justice.

The Dining Room Rock – A family-run fine dining restaurant, here you’ll find a small regularly updated menu which is designed to make the most of local ingredients. Once you’ve found the perfect home in the area, you’ll become a regular at this romantic spot!

Restaurant Nathan Outlaw – A short drive away in Port Isaac, food lovers will be delighted to find one of the best restaurants in the UK and one dedicated to seafood. With two Michelin stars, expect exquisite dishes and exemplary service.   

Local amenities

There is plenty to do around Polzeath and Rock, where families will find endless outdoor activities to keep them occupied. Have a go at rock pooling at low tide, body boarding, learning to surf with a local surf school, and of course mastering the art of building a sandcastle! 

Polzeath is also a famous nature reserve and dolphins may sometimes be spotted around the area and many types of coastal birds, including puffins. 

The Point at Polzeath offers a range of outdoor activities including tennis and golf, and the St Moritz Hotel located in Trebetherick has a Cowshed Spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and a gym. There are also two restaurants serving local fresh gourmet food if you build up an appetite! 

Considered to be one of the best in South West, St. Enodoc Golf Club offers two 18-hole courses with magnificent views overlooking the Camel Estuary. 

There are some breathtaking coastal walks you can enjoy in this area. It’s a pleasant walk between Polzeath and Rock, and you will come across another popular beach – Daymer Bay – nestled between the two. Daymer is a popular destination for wind surfers and gig racing due to its low tide. Carry on up into the sand dunes and you will see St Enodoc Church, a beautiful, peaceful old church situated on the fairways of St Enodoc Golf Club.
