Outdoor cooking in Cornwall!

We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait for summer and the return of outdoor cooking in Cornwall! The sunnier days see a shift in our lifestyles and more time spent outside… and that includes anything to do with food! Dining al fresco is one of the absolute pleasures that makes living in the South West feel like a holiday.

This season, we explore beyond the BBQ and consider more outdoor cooking options which you could install in your new Cornish garden. If you haven’t found your perfect Cornish property yet, then browse our current portfolio here.

The Wood-Fired Pizza Oven

There’s something extra-special about a wood-fired pizza, isn’t there!? The extra heat stored in the dense brick material actually cooks the pizza quicker, producing that delicious crisp in the crust, and retaining more flavour than cooking in a conventional oven.

If you fancy getting a piece of the pizza action at home, The Stone Bake Oven Company have both ‘Ready-To-Go’ and ‘Build-Your-Own’ ovens available. They look pretty spectacular in any outdoor space, and once you’re hosting your very own pizza parties you’ll make friends with the neighbours in no time!

The Rustic Camp Fire

Perhaps part of your rural dream is to set up a good old-fashioned campfire in the corner of the garden, topped with a griddle pan of freshly caught fish or foraged foods? Get back to nature with a ‘wild space’ where you can get away from it all, eating and drinking until the sun goes down.

To learn more about the wide range of food that can be foraged here in Cornwall, why not book onto a course guided by a local expert? Cornish Wild Food is just one of the companies offering outdoor cooking and foraging experiences specific to the county.

The Kotlich Hanging Pot

Take your campfire cooking to the next level with an impressive hanging Kotlich pot, inspired by communal making, stirring and storytelling from Serbia. Traditionally used for making soups and stews, the limits of what you can cook in a Kotlich are endless.

Everyone can get involved in the process, and the toasty fires are excellent for sitting around on a chilly evening, doubling as heaters and extending the season spent outdoors.

Ceramic Charcoal ‘Eggs’

If you’re keen to keep things contained but cook without compromise, The Big Green Egg, or something similar, could be for you. Using high grade ceramics and organic charcoal, these innovative designs allows for quicker cooking and a higher level of temperature control than your average barbeque.

The eggs come in a variety of sizes to suit any outdoor space, and each can be fuelled with various flavours of smoking chips including Apple, Cherry, Pecan and Alder. Delicious!

Outdoor Kitchens

Some ambitious dreamers have gone the whole hog and created stunning outdoor kitchens at home.

Think bigger than just the cooking: you can install refrigerated drawers, open air sinks, preparation areas and the all-important outdoor bar into your garden space.

Careful planning and design can make your outdoor kitchen useable throughout the seasons, embracing the fresh air even in the winter when we need it most!

Get inspired by visiting The Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick Beach, or a feast at Nancarrow Farm, where they can show you how it’s done.

If you have a specific vision in mind for your Cornish garden, let our property team know and we’ll keep an eye on everything that’s coming on the market this summer.
